Q. What is the difference between a counsellor and a psychologist?

A counsellor helps people manage everyday issues like stress or relationships through talking and support. A psychologist has more advanced training and treats deeper mental health problems using therapy and psychological assessments.

Q. How can you share information with others if

counselling is confidential?

Working with children and adolescents sometimes take a larger approach, as it takes a village to raise a child!

Every young person I work with completes a form at the start of their journey, that helps them understand the importance of having others help them with their strategies. Whilst I am guided by the child and they may not want to share information with other family members, they often choose to put down special people and, how and what can be shared with them.

I regularly check in on this list with young people, and make sure that they are still comfortable with the way information is shared e.g. parents in at the end of the session, a text or phone call to the parent after.
